Description

This training presents the Cognitive Psychophysiological (CoPs) intervention for tics, a novel therapy for tics that is both unique and exciting in that it improves tic severity by addressing the sources of physical and psychological tension underlying tic symptoms (rather than focusing on the tics themselves).

CoPs was developed by the eminent Dr. Kieron O'Connor, who revolutionized OCD treatment with his Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (i-CBT) for OCD, and a multidisciplinary team of associates including your co-trainer Dr. Julie B. Leclerc, who developed an adaptation of CoPs called Façotik (pronounced FASS-oh-tic) for use with children. CoPs and Façotik have been shown to reduce tics in both adults and children, with an efficacy that is comparable to other existing behavior therapies for tics, including CBIT/Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics.

We are thrilled to offer this FULL CoPs Training facilitated by Dr. Julie B. Leclerc, the primary developer of the child adaptation Façotik and close collaborator of Dr. O’Connor, who continues their important work as Researcher and Director of the Laboratory for the Study of Childhood Psychopathology (LETOPE) at the University of Québec at Montreal. It is co-facilitated by Dr. Kelly Ann Cartwright, a clinical psychologist with lived experience with tics, Certified CBIT Therapist working with children, teens and adults, and keen advocate for improving access to effective interventions supporting persons with tics and their families.
